Our most frequently asked question is how much is PAT Testing? This guide will show you what to expect to pay for PAT Testing. PAT Testing prices will depend on the type organisation you are and obviously how many appliances you have.
An appliance is an electrical item that is plugged in via a standard 3 pin plug into the wall. For the events & construction industry this also includes anything with blue or yellow 110v ceeform plugs.
The word “portable” from PAT testing throws some clients out – as the item doesn’t necessarily have to be portable like a power drill. Appliances like machinery or large printers still have to be PAT testing too.
Examples of appliances that need to be PAT tested include:
- Computers & Laptop Chargers
- Printers, Fans & Lamps
- Toasters, Kettles & Microwaves
- Extension Cables & Computer Power Leads
- Washing Machines, Dishwashers & Fridges
- Power Tool Chargers

PAT Testing Prices Explained
PAT Testing Prices for Computers & IT Equipment in Offices
PC’s, monitors & IT equipment such as printers & tills tend to count as more than one item. This is because the power lead to that appliance will need to be separately tested. So when counting your IT appliances in your industry it is advised to double the number the number of IT equipment to give you an accurate figure for PAT testing prices. For example, when testing a computer you have four appliances. The PC, its power lead, the monitor and its power lead. So each computer is technically four appliances. For example if your office had 40 computers, all with one monitor each, you would have 160 items to test.
Extension leads also need to be tested, so again, in an office where a group of desks tend to house 3-4 workstations you will probably have one or two extension leads under the desk to test too.
Items such as kettles, toasters & fridges in kitchens will need to be tested and don’t forget appliances in private offices and meeting rooms too.
Hard dryers in toilets are hard wired into the mains supply so these won’t be tested during a PAT test.
To give you an approximate idea you will be looking to pay £1.00-£1.70 per appliance for a fully insured, professional and thorough testing company.

PAT Testing Prices for Landlords
PAT Testing Pricing for landlords tends to be priced at a fixed rate as there are usually under a dozen items to test if the house comes furnished with items such as fridges, freezers, washing machines & small items. Landlords can expect to pay £75+VAT per house for PAT Testing. We can also arrange an EICR test which needs to be done every 5 years or when a tenancy renews. PAT Testing Prices for Musicians & Bands
Sounds & AV equipment fall in a similar category to IT equipment. They are mainly powered by an IEC lead. Because this lead isn’t fixed to the device it needs to be tested as a separate item. So when working out how many appliances you have it’s best to double the amount of sound & AV equipment to give you an accurate figure.
